TEXTures Stencil Launch and Giveaway!

I have exciting news!   I have been busy, and one of the things I have been doing is designing stencils for Artistcellar. Their stencils are both beautifully made and designed,  and I am excited to be the first of their “Artist Signature Series.” My stencil set is called “TEXTures”. There are four stencils, all made from my calligraphy, which is pretty much letters telling a story that might not be legible. They are meant to add text and texture to your pages or projects that might need some storytelling. The four styles are Runes, Roadmap, Rivermap and Romans....

Words for the Season

Words for the Season

I was asked to donate an ornament to Two Hands Paperie, a spectacular paper, book, and art shop in Boulder owned by my friend Mia Semingson, that will be sold as a fundraiser for Meals on Wheels. Because I love Christmas, and all things holiday related at this time of year, I decided to ponder the season and find words to describe all celebrating going on around me. I have friends that celebrate Hanukkah, Kwanza, Solstice, and Diwali, all these can be described with similar words of observance and intention. I made a book to hang on a tree, or any other hanging place. The text paper was...

Zentangle a Map!

I have a friend across the world that I have never met. She just wrote a book, and I am very pleased to be a part of the blogroll to get the word out. Kass Hall lives in Australia and is a a Certified Zentangle® Teacher. This is something I knew not a thing about, until I got her book. Kass and I decided that a map was in order, since that combines techniques from both our books. I just took a very eventful trip from my home in Colorado to Ghost Ranch in northeastern New Mexico and decided that was the journey to map. First of all, I read the whole book since I was a Zentangle virgin. I...

Summer Camp

Today is my birthday. It is a fine day, already showing promise of being a reasonable day in the mid-70s (yesterday was 100°). I hope to spend it in a creative and relaxing way. Hard to beat what I have been doing, I have to say. Last week my mother and my sister Linden were here, and we all went on our annual pilgrimage to the YMCA at Estes Park. Our kids go to camp while we make things. Here is our cabin.                             Here is our breakfast. We made dolls. We made fantastic, fabulous dolls with their own...

Painting Granola

Painting Granola

My friend Pam makes the best granola, ever. I decided to make her a fancy recipe to hang in her pantry. I gathered pictures of all the plants that were involved in the recipe: orchids that provide vanilla beans, cardamom that comes from a ginger plant, the leaf of the maple tree that provides the syrup for sweetness. I drew the ingredients along with the text.   The rest is  a surprise for Pam, who impressed the heck out of me by going a whole year using no packaged foods, and inventing recipes like this. This is the best granola out there. Thanks...

Road Trip, Part 1.

Road Trip, Part 1.

I am on the road with my kids. We drove from Colorado through the godforsaken Nevada desert to the coastal waters of California. It has been a long trip, and totally worthwhile. In San Francisco there is an aquarium. The colors took my breath away. I wondered how all the other visitors were responding. Ah, those quinacridones! Sure, the eel is scary, but mostly he is surrounded by colors and textures that show him off. His best self, shining there for all of us to see. And this! White on blue, glorious! The colors of vacations are so different from the colors at home, it is like the dreams I...
