A Year Ago, Today. Or “How to Tend to a Sick Artist”

Last March 3 I endured a nine hour open heart surgery that was a big whopper of a surprise to everyone in my life. I had a 9cm aneurysm in the ascending aorta of my heart, and there was no other way to keep me alive. Two funny people we know died of this exact same situation: Lucille Ball and John Ritter. I like to think its somehow a comic’s condition. I love Mark Twain and remember reading “The Innocents Abroad” the year I lived in Florence, Italy. He made lists in that book, measurements and tallies that illustrated his points. Here is my Mark Twain list for My Event of...

Sweet February

Well it is that time again, for me to giveaway goodies to celebrate all of you out there. This month I am fixating on Gypsies. When I lived in Florence, Italy, there was a large group of Gypsies (that is what we were told they were called, forgive me if I am incorrect) who were in throngs around the center of the city. Tiny colorfully dressed girls that wore aprons had kittens on leashes and would play accordions for money. I was intrigued, as I am with nomadic peoples of all kinds. And a gypsy wagon, well, who does not want to head off into the sunset in one of those? Two bookmakers I know...

JANUARY Sweet 16 Winner

Our random choosers picked SANDY DAWKINS!!! I am sending her the butterfly card personalized to her, and this metal sculptured journal from Mexico with the butterfly on the front. Years ago I made an artists’ book about butterflies. The Denver Public Library now has it in their collection. I will tell you that story soon, suffice it to say butterflies are meaningful for me. In Japan they can symbolize the soul. The butterfly also symbolizes transformation. The weather this week was transformative. We had a record-breaking snow day on Tuesday, then this sunrise on Wednesday. Here is a...

Sweet January

Hello all, finally! Despite my best efforts I could not post here on January 16th as promised, as a chain of events including the disappearance of this blog got in my way. However, persistence is my middle name and here we are!!! This month I am offering a journal page, a card pattern and a project idea. I will also send my project to one of those of you who leave a comment and you get two chances if you share, another if you sign up for my newsletter which goes out a few times a year. I have been out of the loop for a while and intend to reconnect with as many of you as I can by blogging...

Introducing “Sweet “16”

I am going to give away stuff here on my blog on the 16th of the month for the whole year of 2016. Here’s Why: On March 3, 2015 I had open-heart surgery to repair an aneurysm I had no idea I had. The week before I stood in my kitchen and told my husband something was very wrong with me. I felt off, my “electrical” system felt jumpy and I had a deep cough. I made back-to-back appointments with my allergist and my primary care physician. Within an hour of the last appointment, I was Life-Flighted to a cardiac ICU. I spent five days there before the surgery and was restricted in my movements,...

Diamond Series Stencil Giveaway!

My stencil company, Artistcellar has done it again! This new series of four stencils is called the “Diamond Series” and you can find them on the Artistcellar site. You can also win a set by visiting all the blogs listed below and leaving one comment per blog for eight chances to win. These are the best quality stencils on the market according to me, and since I do not have a delicate touch that matters! I used this new series to make papers on top of road maps. The primary medium I used was Radiant Rain Shimmering Mist and Radiant Rain Daubers by ColourArte. I did add dye inks...
