Yes

It could happen any time, tornado,
earthquake, Armageddon.  It could happen.
Or sunshine, love, salvation.

It could, you know.  That’s why we wake
and look out — no guarantees
in this life.

But some bonuses, like morning,
like right now, like noon,
like evening.

~ William Stafford ~

This is one of my favorite poems by one of my favorite poets. It is the middle of the night, and my head is full of ideas on fate. What I know is that we need to take the time to appreciate what is all around us, and, maybe especially, what isn’t.

WOW! That’s some powerful, late-night ruminating dearie! But I love the sentiment in the little poem :-) I am not familiar with William Stafford — ah, a new distraction/shiny thing for me to chase around *in all my spare time – ha!*

Now… onto what lies before me ;-)

What a wonderful poem, Jill! Thanks for sharing it with all of us. And it’s spot-on, isn’t it?

    Hi Jill,

I took you paste paper book class with the San Diego Book Arts last year. I loved it so much.

Thank you for this wonderfully creative blog.

This is a great poem, too.
