Right out of the Gate

Posted on January 14, 2010 - Filed Under Uncategorized

2010 is shaping up to be my year, and I am not even a Tiger. My huge insurance deal with the house flood was settled (6 months of stress), my husband has a job he likes, my kids are doing well in school, I am finalizing my book contract with North Light Books, and I finally got accepted to teach at Art and Soul in Portland. Two weeks into it and it still feels like Christmas.

Tent

This is a journal page I drew at a folk festival we went to, and sitting on that lawn listening to Anne and Pete Sibley felt like I feel right now. The stars are aligned, I fill the space I am meant to fill, and can reach as far as I like from here.

Along these enchanted lines, I just remodeled my mother’s downstairs bathroom, and it turned out so well that it made me want to dance. The woodwork went from mustard to white, the walls are cerulean blue, her favorite color. The shower curtain, photographs and candle holders are black and white, with lime green accents. I drew on wood to make a frame for the mirror, pen and ink of her favorite architecture of the world: St. Peters, Stonehenge, il Duomo, the Statue of Liberty, etc. Now if I had an iPhone, I could have Facebooked the transformation of that room from 1963 to 2010. Will take care of that little detail in a couple of weeks.

I feel lucky.
