Snow, and Samples

PC046230At six a.m. my backyard looks like this. The puppy is bouncing around, the kids are still dreaming, and my coffee is just brewed. The indigo snow and the black branches, the hint of my neighbor enjoying the same morning, this is rich.

The last few days I have been in my studio making samples for my class at Valley Ridge. We will be taking a book and making books from it. Here is one I did yesterday. My book is a 1963 volume about Art and Music for kids. This set of pages presents a painting by Picasso.

PC036221I laminated the picture on some card stock, and cut out four ATC from it.

PC036222Then I started to cut up and rearrange the text, with descriptions on the front, and a story on the back.

PC036223PC036224When the new love story was done, I made a case to enclose it.

PC036225I added a title to the front, and used another image from the book behind it.

PC036226Finding these stories is really entertaining. One of the other books I made was from a painting of a family on Christmas Eve. I changed it into a dark story of secrets, and hiding.

I feel grateful for this outlet, especially at time like this. There are some very serious things going on around me, and I tend to get caught up in the sadness. Sometimes it is really hard to shake. Getting in my studio with Cuban music, pear tea and fun projects is a therapy that is unrivaled, it makes me so dang happy I can get out of the worries-of-the-world head.

Today I have to get a move-on, because this project could go on for ages and swallow up time I need for many other projects. I just can’t spend forever on it, especially since Kathy has already threatened to keep it. Let’s just see if that happens….

what a beautiful photo. There’s such a peace and calm about it. I have a stamp that reads “listen to the quiet” and it’s the first thing I thought. Your book from a book is wonderful! What a great way to preserve its story in another light-well done! :) Linda
