Channeling Thiebaud
Posted on August 31, 2009 - Filed Under Uncategorized
I have a new puppy, I named him after Wayne Thiebaud. He is elegant, has long black toenails and a curly head. His mother is a rescued Standard Poodle, his father had a brief acquaintance with her in a holding pen. Voila! We have a puppy.
I love Wayne Thiebauds’ work, so I decided to have another channeling day, where I called his spirit into my studio (he is alive by the way) and did some small watercolors of his large oil paintings. There is a lot to be learned working this way.

He painted baked goods.

He drew wacky landscapes.

He cut fancy cantelope and painted that too.

And odd, stiff people that are not really dancing.
I used one long piece of painted paper for the covers and the concertina spine. Now I have a small diary of my time in Thiebaud’s head, and I had fun doing it.
Pick someone, Dali, Thiebaud, Hopper, anyone you like and copy them, adding your own special touch. Take a character out and put your own character in. That is what I am working on next. That is, after I finish my prep for teaching in San Diego, and my proposals for AU next year. Ciao for now!
