Mama’s Day

Posted on May 11, 2009 - Filed Under About me

mamas-dayYesterday I had a gourmet breakfast: egg strudel, grilled grapefruit with toasted coconut, fresh coffee and flowers. My girl made me a book of poetry, the dedication page is here. Steve made a beautiful slide show of our parenting history. Those sweet fat baby legs, I miss those! Beach days, hiking days when our dogs were furry nannies.

Sam left the card he made for me at school. He snuggled up to me and said “I love you Mama. I am the card.”

We went bowling. There were lots of moms at the Bowling Alley. We got a few strikes, mostly made everyone else look good. Wore bad shoes.

Came home and made shrimp and scallops with garlic and lemon. I made a spinach souffle, Sydney made broccoli rice, and we had a great bottle of wine. The kids set the table with candles and flowers. We shared our favorite parts of the day, the best of our family traditions.

There is nothing else to say. This is what is it about, Mother’s Day. It should be like this for every mother on earth, but I know it isn’t. My heart is full of my thoughtful, poetic, talented (maybe not at bowling!) family.

I’m just seeing the card now… there are tears in my eyes, Jill… how amazing! I can’t wait to meet Sydney one day since your children are so fantastic.
