The Realm of the Ice Princess

This weekend I taught the Mapping class up in Estes Park. A HUGE snow came through on Friday: it was quite a weekend. I drove through every weather condition available in a mountain area, and got to a cabin that was buried. The snow plow, in its attempt to dig out my cabin, also got buried. A tow truck was summoned, and I was sent to a new cabin. The new cabin had electricity for about an hour after I got there. So, I left my house at 1pm, and at 8pm was sitting in the dark in Estes Park. I had firewood, and I had a beautiful scene out my window. It was quiet, and remarkable, and I felt a fleeting connection with my pioneer ancestry. All the schlepping and slogging through snow I did that day, they did as a regular part of their day.
I love the mapping class. Just love it. Here is one of the maps I made a while ago, that is part of my “atlas”.
It is an illustration of a story I wrote about my girl a few years ago, and it represents the world as she knew it then. Love the map making, and will put together the show for my class, as soon as I finish unpacking.

Hi Jill, now that I am home and have had a week to settle in to classes and routine, I think back on our wonderful, magical snow palace at Estes Park with wonderful memories. I learned so much, about myself and about art, and in the process had the opportunity to be involved with 4 wonderful women. You are a master teacher – creative, supportive, and empowering, and I thank you. I hope to see you again someday soon. My warmest regards, Susan
