Shrine Sisters

On a recent Sunday, a grey, perfect-time-to-be-inside-crafting kind of Sunday, a group of my arty friends came over lugging their bags of cha-cha, and we made shrines. We made shrines to sell online at an auction sponsored by my friend Rebecca Brooks, who asked us to help her raise funds for the street kids of Oaxaca, Mexico. This fine group of my friends said YES! to this project, and so we gathered.

We had cigar boxes, paint, glue, shiny things, fuzzy things, lots of food and even decor items. The day went by, with nine women in my basement making art together for a good cause. We laughed a lot, and ate, and assemblaged (you know what that is, the French art of glueing things together). DeeDee made a exercising dead woman with a fabulous hat that I have to say just barely made it into the box I mailed off. My true confession is that for a moment I thought I might need that shrine more than those kids did, but alas, I did the right thing. Check out Rebecca’s shrines, they are all for sale, and you can help a kid and get a treasure at the same time.

I am grateful for this lovely group of wonderful ladies, my bffs all. Big kudos, hurrahs, and bravas to Kay, Alice, Helen, Rosalba, DeeDee, Tess, Nancy, and Libby!
