Ojai in September

My son Sam says “Mom, you like the results of things.” Yeah, I do. The results of the class in Ojai are right here, and I really like them. Everyone was brilliant. We did have margaritas that Marvelous Marv made, but not until after we had painted and created all day, sometimes up to 9 hours or more. Two days of painting, three days and thirteen books each. The books were original, thoughtful, and yummy. I was so tempted to snatch them up and ferret them away, but resisted. Barely.

There were two sets of Moms and Daughters there. My mom Jo, and I, and Sabrina and her mom, Judy. My daughter Sydney thought it was “freaky” that my mom would be my student, but she would have loved seeingĀ  Jo and I sing. We performed some of the baudy songs she taught us as children, then Jo made some baudy song books. I was so proud! I have to say that Mom was very well behaved, depending upon your view of baudy songs, and it was a pleasure to have her and her good friend Jan, who I finally met after years of rave reviews. And Mary, who brought her fiber houses and treasures to share. All of us were amazed and impressed with what Barbara and Marv have created at Artful Living: a shop full of goodies, a workshop space and a kind of cozy hotel, surrounded by pink hills and the best pizza I have ever had.

On the way home there were an abundant number of preschool kids on my plane, and I know what you are thinking! I thought it too. But then, about halfway through the ride, one of them broke out into an enthusiastic version of “Old Macdonald Had a Farm.” One by one, up and down the aisle, the plane-bound preschoolers joined in. There were oinks and giggles for quite a while, and it was so charming I just wanted to bottle it up and drink it. It was a week of a lot singing; must have been a full moon!

    jill, you are f*&%ing awesome!

you managed to keep us on task and make sure we stayed focused, even with the potential distractions of barbara’s store, and the daily political discussions. despite the mental exhaustion of this strange form of math, ultimately, it was a very relaxing week.

    i highly recommend it!

p.s. thanks for bringing your mom–it wouldn’t have been the same without her.

Jill, thank you so much for a *wonderful* workshop. I loved every exhausting moment. You are a great teacher! I look forward to taking another class with you in the future.
