My Word for 2012 in Haiku

Posted by on Jan 6, 2012 in About me, Creative Exercises, Haiku My Heart | 19 comments

My word for 2012 is perspective. Here is my whale mantra and my haiku to symbolize that word. This is a combo of my photography, a drawing I did of a whale, maps, clip art and Photoshop collage.

When I was in California last month I took my family whale watching. We saw lots of bottle nosed dolphins, and Rizzo dolphins, but no whales. I was disappointed. When I came home, I realized that the whales were there, making their migration to the warm waters of Southern Baja in Mexico, whether I saw them or not. The might have been deep under the water of our boat.

Change your perspective
Turn, gaze, open, embrace, see
It is all here, now.

  2. Magical haiku and lovely photo ~~ thanks, namaste, Carol (A Creative Harbor)

  3. This is, in essence, my message today as well, but I didn’t choose perspective as the word of the year. In fact, I have seen others that have a chosen word. I’m not aware of it, but I believe I do have one, I just didn’t identify.
My message was like your whale watching. We don’t always see the sun because of clouds perhaps, but it is always there. I believe we can “feel” the whales and the sun and other marvels even if we don’t lay eyes upon them. I love this haiku.

    Peace

  4. Ah so true. It’s all about perspective.

  5. I really love your word for the year…perspective…that’s great. I also like the word embrace that you used in your haiku… I thought I had my mind made up, but you got me thinking♥♥♥

  6. We lived in Monteray for 3 years when Ron was in the army. It is such a beautiful place to be. It is such a privilege to watch the whales, dolphins, seals and sea otters…I particularly like the sea otter as he always seems so relaxed and without anxiety! Thanks for the memories!!! Wishing you well!

  7. truly it is all here now,

each moment a new opportunity to renew our heart vision.

  8. Great word for you for 2012! I have to say that ‘Saving Valentina’ is absolutely brilliant! I sat watching it with tears streaming down my face. I live in Hervey Bay – a town in Australia that is named ‘the whale watching capital’. My husband and I took a boat load of people out whale watching on the day we were married and were married at sea, so they are very dear to my heart. Thank you for sharing this.

  9. Ali I felt the same way. I am a whale person, for sure. Wasn’t that just stunning?

  15. Such an awesome artpiece and haiku.. You are right, we do need to change our perspective sometimes to see the wider picture. We should do it more often.. you gave a nice reminder! Thanks!

  16. Jill,

Thanks so much for the video, it was breath taking, even knowing it had been saved. The first year I lived in Tasmania (46 years ago)an adult sperm whale beached and died on a local north west coast beach, our family was broken hearted at the situation, but at that time no one knew what to do. So good now that at least people can try attempt to save these beautiful creatures, and so often necessary to the succeed balnce of our planet

  17. Jill sorry about the jumble above, hope you understand what I was trying to say, my cat walked on the keys in the middle of editing.
